My Story
I finished writing my first book at 12 years old - a comic book. As a teenager I explored the natural beauty of Central Oregon and began writing stories and poems. I’ve traveled in Europe, Africa, and South America, and have lived in Brooklyn and Portland. My wife and I currently live in Mexico, not far from the beach.
I am a lover of the classics. My favorites include Bradbury’s Martian Chronicles, A. C. Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes, O’Henry’s short stories, Hemingway’s Old Man and the Sea, Steinbeck’s Cannery Row, and Pablo Neruda’s Odes.
Imagination and creativity can be an oasis in our hectic world. My favorite works are those that tap into this and evoke a sense of mystery and discovery. Stories can open the eyes of our mind a reveal our world, others, or ourselves anew.
My favorite works are those that achieve this in an organic, original way. Peter Pan (Barrie), Calvin and Hobbes (Watterson), The Far Side (Larson), and movies like Big Fish, The Never-ending Story, Star Wars, and Never Cry Wolf created worlds of depth and wonder. They showed us the summit, and wonder is that peak toward which I climb.
